Rich Abramson

The family of Richard T. Abramson of Moodus, Connecticut is saddened to announce his passing on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the age of 73, after a brief, courageous battle with bladder cancer. He was a former resident of Charlestown from 1980 until 2016.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years, Barbara; children: C. Scott Abramson and his partner Becky Rawlinson of Farmington, CT and Michael Abramson and his wife Allison of Chester, CT; sister Karen (Michael) Mazur of Pompton Plains, NJ; sister-in-law Nancy (David) Smith of Londonderry, NH and brother-in-law B. Joseph Boumenot of Washington.
"Grampy" will be dearly missed by the children who brought such joy to his life: Erin and Grant Arruda, Emma, Sophia and Clara Abramson, and his many nieces and nephews.
Rich was predeceased by his parents Richard T. and D. June Abramson and his in-laws Beppo and Irene Boumenot.
Rich was born in Montclair, NJ in 1948. He enjoyed his studies of botany and chemistry, graduating from Rutgers University in 1971. Rich served as Technical Director at Bradford Dying Association until his retirement.
An avid fisherman, Rich enjoyed his times on the Connecticut River and on the shores of Rhode Island. Rich loved traveling, working in his yard with Barbara and gathering with his loved ones.
A private service was held on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home in Centerbrook, Connecticut.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Marlborough Medical Center, Middlesex Hospital, the Middlesex Health Cancer Center, Visiting Nurses of Colchester and Yale New Haven Hospital for their expert service and compassionate care for Rich.

Bernice Rose Caravaglia, age 67, of Morristown, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016.

Born in Paterson and raised in Wayne, Bernice graduated from Wayne Valley High School with the Class of 1967.

The most important role of Berniceâ?™s life was that of being a wonderful, loving, selfless mother to her seven children. She was their greatest advocate and fiercest protector throughout their formative years and their best friend as adults. Raising her children as a single mom for many years, there wasnâ?™t anything that Bernice would not do to give them the best life experience possible always putting their needs and wants ahead of her own. Her house was always a welcome place for all of their friends and consequently, many of them addressed Bernice, not asMrs. Caravagliabut instead, affectionately as Mom

Bernice always loved time spent down at the Jersey shore. As a child her family would go to Long Branch and to Bernice, the best days at the shore were either during a storm or right after one when the waves were really big. She shared that love of the shore with her own kids, taking them often for day trips down to Sandy Hook 

In what little spare time any mom would have while raising seven children, one of the things that Bernice enjoyed most was country music  especially the sounds of tried-and-true stars like Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. She and her friends were known to enjoy a night out together at The Landslide Saloon in Asbury, NJ. They had a blast dancing together and maybe having a refreshment or two  her own favorite drink being a little concoction called Red Death.

The ultimate animal lover, Berniceâ?™s heart would always be concerned that the squirrels and the birds had enough food, but she especially loved her cats. She had many over the years and most recently, her best buddy was a kitty named Mocha. So close was this cat to Bernice that, for the past ten years, if Bernice so much as sat down, Mocha would be on her lap in a flash. Mocha was good company, especially if Bernice was involved in another favorite pastime â?˜reading a good book. She had a special attraction to horror stories and consequently, read everything Stephen King ever published, but sheâ?™d read other genres too, including lots of the books that her kids brought home from school.

Time spent in the kitchen was another one of Berniceâ?™s pastimes. She especially loved to eat cake and pies and one of her familyâ?™s favorite cookies that she baked were called Hello Dollyâ?™s. They became famous during the 1960â?™s when Hello Dolly was playing on Broadway. Made from chocolate graham crackers, butter, nuts, chocolate chips, condensed milk and coconut, she had a handwritten recipe from her mom that was so good, it was very hard to keep an ample supply in the cookie tin.

Like the cats that Bernice loved so much, sometimes it seemed like she had nine lives. Bernice had been engaged in a twenty-year battle with COPD and in 2007, she suffered a hard attack that no one thought she would survive but she did! Like the other setbacks in her life, she always fought hard and always maintained a genuine positive and upbeat attitude. Laura passed away on August 31, 2011 peacefully at her home with her husband by her side. She was born on November 14, 1949 in Paterson, NJ to her parents Edwin and Evelyn Casadevall. As a young woman she served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. During her time in the service she earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. She later worked for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority as secretary and office manager for 25 years. In 2005 she and her husband moved to the Palm Coast area from Virginia.

Gretchen passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on July 15, 2010, after a short but fierce battle with cancer. She was very active until the end and throughout her life never let a day cruise idly by. It was never her style to sit back and relax. This was one of her greatest traits, as she tried to keep life active and exciting each and every day. Her favorite activities included tennis, horseback riding, water skiing, snow skiing, running, meeting with her book club, and gathering with friends.

Gretchen was born on July 20, 1949, to parents Charles W. and Rosa G. Chillson. She grew up in Packanack Lake, NJ, and attended Kentucky Wesleyan College, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. In 1972, she moved to Santa Barbara and found a passion in leather arts. She used her creative talents to turn this hobby into a business and sold leather wallets and belts at the Arts & Crafts Show each Sunday at Chase Palm Park from 1975 through 1995, as well as at other seasonal craft shows and outlets.

Gretchen is survived by her husband, Evan Bishop, two daughters, Lauren Duncan (Angus) and Kristen Bishop, three siblings, Thomas W. Heller (Mardon), Marsha G. McElwee (Richard), and Charles W. Chillson, Jr., and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Bonnie M. Arsenault, age 68 of East Greenwich, passed away in her sleep Friday at home with her devoted husband Ken by her side.

Born in Chicago, IL., she was the daughter of the late Richard and the late Myra (Leskiw) Crossley.

She graduated in 1967 from Wayne Valley High School, in New Jersey. Following high school she received her LPN degree in nursing in 1971 from Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. She then went on to become a registered nurse and had a 42 year career in orthopedic nursing. Working in four major hospitals, and one urgent care walk-in clinic. Bonnie was a giver not a taker, a selfless, caring, compassionate, unconditional loving woman, always putting others before herself. She lived life to the fullest and really made a lasting impression on others who crossed her path in life. Her biggest passion was being out in nature in any season of the year, but especially fall. She especially loved, hiking, camping, and rooting for the Bruins, Patriots, and Red Sox. Bonnie had many other talents that many people got to enjoyed. She was a great baker and cook of cookies, breads, pancakes, and waffles, the neighborhood kids knew this well. Her other talents were sewing, needlepoints, and knitted winter hats. Many people received these as gifts throughout her life. She was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, and aunt to all. She truly has touched more lives than we will ever know, missed tremendously, and has made a difference in this world.

Charlene "Cha" DeShaw Norris, 67, died Friday, May 5, 2017 at the retirement community of Wesley Woods of Newnan, Georgia. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at noon in the Smith Funeral Service Chapel. A private graveside service will be conducted in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Charlene was born May 19, 1949, the daughter of Charles and Vivene DeShaw. Charlene graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Music Education in 1972. She was an elementary music educator at multiple schools in the Pitt County School System from 1978 through 1999, primarily at Sam D. Bundy in Farmville.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Norris. She is survived by her children,

DEYOUNG, STANLEY ALFRED, 70, of Midland Park, formerly of Paterson, NJ passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 4, 2019. He lived his life working hard to provide for his family. He was a wonderful husband to his late wife Christine Deyoung who passed in February 2018.
He leaves behind two daughters who loved him dearly, Melissa Deyoung of Midland Park and Kimberly Deyoung of Hawthorne. Most importantly he leaves behind his only grandchild Taylor Stanley Deyoung of Midland Park who was his little buddy and his entire world.

Stanley was a respected United States Army Veteran and proudly served our country in the Vietnam War. He was a loving father, grandfather and cherished friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Stanley's passion in life was camping at his trailer and enjoying the outdoors. He will be missed immensely by his family, friends and his veteran brothers. Stanley will also be greatly missed by his Tall Timbers "family" to whom he was very close within Vernon, NJ.
A special thank you to the people at Serenity Hospice for their loving care and support during his final days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to John Manke and Manke Memorial for their accommodating and understanding compassion during this difficult time. Cremation was private.

Douglas H. Fowler, 64, longtime resident of Nashua, died at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack on April 12, 2014, surrounded by members of his loving and devoted family.

Mr. Fowler was born on October 21, 1949, in Massachusetts. He was a son of Patricia (Smith) Fowler of St. Petersburg, FL and the late Donald H. Fowler.

He ws the husband of Rosa (Gomes) Fowler, they shared over 12 years of marriage.

Most recently, he had been working with tech support for Comcast. For many years, he was a regional manager for several service stations including Circle K and Shell.

He is remembered as a gentleman who worked hard all his life. He also enjoyed reading. Mr. Fowler loved to challenge his mind with brain games and teasers such as Sudoku. He enjoyed music and dancing.

Mr. Fowler was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having entered after graduating high school, had achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant during his enlistment. His Air Force career brought him all around the world and gave him many life experiences, including a chance to run with the bulls in Spain.

Mr. Fowler cared deeply for his community and was a Master Mason of Lee Lodge No. 30 in Castleton, VT. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Burlington and the Vermont Consistory 32nd Degree and the Cairo Shriners of Rutland, VT. He was also a member of The American Legion of West Rutland, VT.

SERVICES: A Masonic Funeral Service in his honor will be conducted by the Officers and Members of Ancient York Lodge #89, Nashua at the Masonic Temple, 200 A Main St. (elevator entrance) Nashua on Thursday evening, April 17, 2014 at 6:30 PM. His interment prayers and burial service will be held at a later date in Barre, Vermont at the request of the family.

Mr. Henneman was born June 9, 1949 in Paterson, NJ and passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. He was a son of the late Jacob Henneman and Antionette Camarco Henneman. Mr. Henneman was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Timothy loved his children and grandchildren. His family was everything to him including his dog, Honey. He enjoyed fishing and loved his Harley.

Sonoma County lost a bit of magic Dec. 10 when John Joseph Iraola, the owner of Santa Rosa's Mostly Magic Shop, died after a long battle with cancer. He was 57. Born in New York City in 1949, Iraola came to Sonoma County in the mid-1970s. He spent his life bringing joy to hearts of countless kids and adults with his magic tricks and his enduring sense of humor - even during the hardest of times in his fight against multiple myeloma cancer.

"What a blessing it has been for all of us to have him in our lives all these years," said Vickie Morse, his wife of 18 years. "Even in the darkest days he would pull himself together, and there was no complaining. He was always so caring about everybody else. I'm going to miss him terribly."

Many will remember Iraola's impromptu magic shows Wednesdays during the Santa Rosa Downtown Market. Others will remember the shows he did for kids at birthday parties or in school classrooms.

Still others will recall his ability to calm tempers as a men's slow-pitch umpire for the Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department.

"They usually deferred the touchy calls to Johnny because he was really diplomatic in how he could handle those situation," said Morse. "He handled them with humor and tried to get everybody to keep it all in perspective." Iraola, whose love of all ball-related games earned him the nickname "ballhog," sponsored a men's slow-pitch team called the Mostly Magic Mooks. The word "mooks" was Iraola's most loving and endearing term, used for those he considered goofballs.

Rick Minervini, a local comedic entertainer and DJ known as Fiz-Nik Rick, said Iraola learned his love of ballgames on the streets of Brooklyn. When Iraola was 10 years old, he moved to Minervini's suburban neighborhood in Wayne, N.J.  "He taught us all the New York street games and how to have New York street fun," said Minervini. "Tennis shoes hung from electrical and telephone wires, our streets were painted with lines for tennis courts, street hockey and street baseball."

Iraola was proud of his Jersey roots, as well as his heritage, being "100 percent" Spanish Basque.

As a young boy, Iraola marveled at his father's ability to entertain people with tricks and practical jokes while working as a bartender in New York City. Iraola gradually developed his skills as a magician and often spoke to Morse about his dream of opening a magic shop.

About 15 years ago, Morse gave Iraola a loving nudge: a custom-made, colorful neon sign of a magic wand and the word's "Magic Shop." That spring, Iraola opened Mostly Magic. The shop, now a rarity in a city the size of Santa Rosa, recalls a different time, before video games and electronic gadgets. And yet young people continue to walk in for a $5 or $7 magic trick. Fathers eager to learn tricks they could show their youngsters were warmly greeted and given a brief lesson as long as they bought the magic trick. It was the kind of customer service you couldn't get from the Internet, which has cut into sales at many magic shops.

"He had kids all over the county who loved him," said Ken Garr, a friend who has helped Iraola run the shop since 1993. Garr has tried to keep the shop open this week while dealing with the loss of his friend, who was known in magicians' circles as Jon E. King.

In front of the shop, which is on D Street a block north of 4th Street, customers and friends have lighted a candle and placed flowers and sympathy cards. Garr and Morse said the shop will remain open because that's what Iraola wanted. "Johnny left the shop to Ken with the intention to keep magic alive and in the community," said Morse.

Iraola had many interests. He loved music, motorcycles, gardening and especially his dog, Boomer.
Aside from Morse and her two daughters (Iraola's stepdaughters), he is survived by his mother, Trini Iraola, and his brother, Michael Iraola, both of Wayne, N.J. He also is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins on the East Coast.

Mildred Umansky, "Millie", age 63 of Cliffwood Lake in Stockholm, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 with her family gathered at her bedside.

Millie was raised in North Bergen and moved to Wayne as a junior in high school. She graduated from Wayne Valley H.S. in 1967 and began taking classes at Paterson College, now known as William Paterson University. She eventually landed a great job with Engineering Assemblies Corp. in Teterboro. She was a natural workaholic and excelled at her career. She quickly advanced to managerial positions and left the company as a Purchasing Manager. She loved her job and had travelled to China a few times to inspect their overseas suppliers.

During her college years, while at a party, she met Igor Umansky. The two of them hit it off and danced the night away. Igor declared that night Millie would never dance with anyone else and they were married in 1971 at St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church in Passaic. They enjoyed a reception at the Wayne Manor and honeymooned in the Bahamas. They travelled quite a bit over the years, including frequent trips to Marco Island. Millie was happiest where there was water, especially at home on the lake, or anywhere she could be near the ocean and a beach. Igor described their forty one years together as a "blessed event", one he would gladly repeat.

Millie was a fabulous cook and would often entertain for large groups at her home. She hosted New Year's Eve parties for several years with more than forty people. Families from around the lake would all come to her house, with porta-cribs for their kids lined up in the bedrooms, and they would party the night away. She also enjoyed hosting a huge Thanksgiving meal, all homemade, fresh dishes, where her uncle counted no less than 19 different vegetables on the table, and all went home with full bellies. Seeing her family together and enjoying themselves was all it took to make her happy. She was like the glue that kept them all so close. 

Millie was also a natural caregiver with a huge heart and truly enjoyed helping others. Many years ago, she took it upon herself to care for her Uncle Bobby. He was an elderly veteran, ailing in Florida, with no relatives to care for him. She didn't know him well, but she knew that he needed help. He became her mission, and she would travel to Florida several times a year to visit with him. Soon, she became his legal guardian and took care of everything for him over the course of several years before he passed. It gave her great satisfaction knowing that his autumn years were not spent alone. This sort of kindness defined who Millie was; a huge heart, selfless, and ready to help anyone in need. She will be sadly missed by many.Â

Rosalyn was the Vice President of Business Affairs for the National Labor College in Silver Spring, Maryland before leaving due to her illness. She was a 1967 graduate of Wayne Valley High School and received her masters degree from Adelphi University.
Beloved mother of Eric Pier-Hocking (Colleen Kalafski) of New York City, daughter of Lita Pier of Passaic, sister of Davida of Morristown, Helene of Passaic and David (Amy Kaplan) of Gaithersburg, MD. She was predeceased by her father Murray in 1983.

Ronda Ellin Roby, 65, passed away March 3, 2015 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Ronda was born June 5, 1949 in Hackensack N.J. to the late Richard Edward Roby and Thelma Irene Bogert Roby. Ronda was a member Madison Avenue Christian Reformed Church of Paterson, NJ. She graduated in 1967 from Wayne Valley High School in Wayne, New Jersey. She also graduated from the Berkely School of Business in New Jersey in 1969. Upon graduating she held executive assistant positions in Northern New Jersey area at Yardley's, Toshiba, and GAF Corporation. As a "Gift of Life" kidney recipient, Ronda always celebrated life and dedicated herself to her community. Ronda lived her faith and considered it a privilege to dedicate her life to meeting the needs of others. Following her transplant, she served as a volunteer helping others to deal with the realities of transplants. Ronda helped to successfully lobby for donor recognition on the NJ Driver license. Ronda co-founded the New Jersey chapter of the Transplant Recipients International Organization (TRIO). While working for New Jersey Public Health, in 1996, Ms. Roby produced, "Faces Behind the Ribbon", a video about the AIDS Epidemic and discrimination. Ronda was a key organizer of a "Motivational Day" for NY / NJ Athletics in Action. The event was hosted by the NY Giants, held at their training camp and attended by 300 young men with the goal to inspire these at-risk youth to make good life choices. Ronda also volunteered her fundraising services in NJ at The Good Shepherd Mission, a men's addition program and shelter in Paterson, New Jersey. As the Manager of Resource Services for STAR of Hope Ministries Ronda was commended for her hard work, integrity, passion and commitment to helping those in need. She was noted for her "pit bull" tenacity. Upon moving to North Carolina, Ronda found employment and the opportunity to serve as Cooperative Christian Ministry of Hickory, NC. Most recently, Classroom Connections, a local non-profit offering free resources to teachers benefited from her service, insight and encouragement. Surviving is her son, Otis Moore of Sandusky, Ohio; sister Robin Roby and her partner Nicole Valette of Sparta, NJ; niece Alyse James; great niece Makayla Conklin; sister, Randi Miner and husband, Arthur of Califon, N.J.; nephew, William Miner; brother, Robert Roby of New Orleans, LA and her fur babies, Sarah and Jonah. Kathleen D. Sherger (nee Reed), age 71 of Riverdale and formerly of Lincoln Park, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on the morning of Thursday, June 3, 2021, after a brave and graceful battle with ALS.

Kathleen was a dedicated teacher at Butler High School for twenty-seven years, retiring in 2012. Prior to teaching, she was a programmer for Texas Instruments and then went back to school to get her teaching certification. While at Butler, she taught mathematics and computer science and her summer breaks were often spent reading about and learning subject matter in preparation to teach new courses she designed for her students. She was very bright and a quick study, teaching herself coding languages such as Java and  C++, as well as networking and video game design. She loved learning as much as she loved teaching.

Kathleen met her husband Bob when they were both in the eighth grade at Schuyler Colfax Middle School in Wayne. They often sat next to each other on the school bus and began¢ around sophomore year in high school. The childhood sweethearts tied the knot on December 26, 1971 at Our Lady of Consolation RC Church in Wayne. Bob was still in the U.S. Army, so their honeymoon was a romantic road trip down south to his base in San Antonio, Texas. They lived there briefly and then in Phoenixville, PA before Bob was discharged. In 1973, they settled in Lincoln Park, NJ where they lived for forty-six years, raising their family of three children 

They were fortunate to have traveled regularly after Kathleen’s retirement. They returned again and again to Key West and Cape May, and visited resorts across the Caribbean. Kathleen also enjoyed annual family vacations to Maine, the Catskills and Adirondacks, the Jersey shore, and beyond. An avid reader, Kathleen was happiest at the beach or pool relaxing with a novel and capping the day off with dinner and drinks.

Kathleen was a beloved full-time teacher, a loving mother and wife, and a devoted caregiver for 38 years to her son Reed, who was born with a developmental disability. Her strength and devotion were an inspiration to colleagues, students, and friends alike. She took pride in her home and gardens, enjoyed cooking with her family, and always welcomed a visitor. Kathleen cherished family traditions and especially loved the holidays and listening to Christmas music while decorating their house to the nines! She enjoyed more than 50 years of the annual Sherger family wreath-making gathering, carrying on a joyful family tradition started by her mother-in-law, Willie. Her adoring daughters will be sure to keep this tradition alive with friends and family for years to come.

Kathleen is survived by her husband Robert of Riverdale, her son Reed of Parsippany, and two daughters; Erika Sherger of Boonton Township and Sara Varney and her husband Jason of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; Wynn and River Varney, two brothers; Robb Reed and his wife Kjersti of Port Angeles, Washington, and Anthony Reed of Wantage, New Jersey, a sister; Diane Reed-Chong and her husband Glenn of San Diego, CA, and several nieces and nephews.

ORMOND BEACH â?” Risa Wolfson liked high school. Liked it so much, in fact, that while her classmates were counting the hours until the end of the day, Wolfson could envision a lifetime in school. Not just any high school, though. Her school.

Sitting in Mrs. Gray's algebra II class as a sophomore at Seabreeze High School nine years ago, the thought first occurred to Wolfson, who also played on the school's tennis team.

''Wouldn't it be great to come back, teach math and coach tennis?''

Herma Gray passed away this year, but the effect she and other teachers had on Wolfson in high school will last a lifetime.

Time flies, and now, after finishing high school and four years at Brown University, after a couple of years spent as a substitute teacher while she experimented with her hobby, film production, she is realizing a wistful high school daydream.

Consider it a dream realized to an exponential degree. Not only has Wolfson become the girls' tennis coach and a full-time math teacher - algebra II, just like Mrs. Gray - she also coaches the academic team and is attempting to revive the math club at Seabreeze.

During her younger years, Ann was a bit of a Tomboy. She loved softball and was better at it than some of the neighborhood guys. After school, Ann married and raised 2 boys and a girl. Ann kept very close to her family, spending many weekends with her parents and brothers, playing card games or watching sports on TV. Ann Died April 4, 2004 in Tampa Fl. at a young age of 54. She is greatly missed by 3 brothers, 2 sons and a daughter, as well as 6 grandchildren.

John was a man that wore many hats. His career included a dry cleaning business, car repairs, facilities and operations manager for corporate real estate, but his heart was working at the family marina in Port Elizabeth. He was a hardworking and proud man with a love for classic cars. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. 
John is survived by his beloved wife Janet-Lee (nee Morris). Loving father to son Glenn Tuttle of Pine Brook and daughter Jessica Collora and her husband Brian of Boonton. Adoring grandfather to Emma Collora. Brother to Ruth Woessner, Ken Tuttle and Matthew Tuttle. John was predeceased by his sisters Helen Leonhardt and Theresa Tuttle.

Seven Lakes, NC - Dale Weber, age 70, of Seven Lakes NC, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Monday Sept. 21st 2020.

Born in Paterson NJ, the only child to the late John and Grace (Cobb) Weber, he grew up in Wayne, NJ then moved to West Milford, NJ. He owned a successful garage door business that was a staple in the North Jersey area for over 30 years. His passions were fishing, boating, golfing, cars & motorcycles, music & dancing. Among his friends he was known for owning every tool and duct tape on earth… then writing his name all over them. Dale was a comedian at heart who made people laugh whenever possible. He was a leader who constantly provided for his family because of his unrelenting drive. Retiring to the Carolinas fulfilled his dream of living on a lake. Lake life allowed him to relax and pursue his love of photography… especially sunsets. He also enjoyed the ducks & swans that came to visit him daily.

Dale is survived by Amy (Miller) Weber, his childhood sweetheart and faithful wife of 49 years. Paul, his best friend and devoted son. Alison, his creative and loving daughter. He is reunited in spirit with our loyal Shelties, Minnie and Maggie. Dale was very fortunate to become part of a much larger family through marriage. Karl G. Weiss of Inyokern passed away on Saturday July 30, 2005 at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. He was 56.
Mr. Weiss was born on Feb. 2, 1949 in Paterson, N.J. As a child he was an Eagle Scout and served as an acolyte at St. Michael's Episcopalian Church in Wayne, N.J. He won many sharp-shooting awards through the National Rifle Association and was named an expert marksman through the Junior Division of the NRA.
As a young man Mr. Weiss worked in agriculture and was a butcher before teaching computer science courses at Pace University in New York. He moved to the Indian Wells Valley in 1974 to work as a computer specialist for Sperry, a government contractor. He recently retired after 21 years of civil service at the Naval Weapons Air Warfare Center Weapons Division at China Lake. He worked for many years at Echo Range as an operations manager before moving to the Range and Control Center where he worked as an analyst.
Much of his free time was spent enjoying the High Desert. He embraced the outdoor life all around him, spending time bass fishing in the Lone Pine area, hunting for quail and chukkar, hiking, photography, and what was perhaps his most favorite activity - gold mining on his various claims and other properties in the El Paso Mountains. He quickly learned the area's history and enjoyed teaching others about the things he'd learned.
Mr. Weiss was active with the Maturango Museum's petroglyph tours and helped escort school children to the area's fascinating Indian heritage. He also taught gold panning to various Boy Scout troops and fourth graders at local schools. Mr. Weiss also volunteered in leading tours as the Burro Schmidt Tunnel and Walt Bickel Camp in the El Pasos. One of this favorite places to be was in his greenhouse where he grew over 50 different types of orchids. He used his gren thumb to raise jalapenos, beets and asparagus, which he canned and shared with everyone to the delight of his friends and family.
Mr. Weiss is survived by his daughter Jennifer of Pompton Lakes, N.J., son Richard and his wife Christiane of Burke, Virg., mother Wanda of Hendersonville, N.C., sister Ann Moses and her husband Randy of Tulsa, Okla., nephew Craig, granddaughters Nicole and Leah and countless friends and other dearly loved ones.
Cremation services will be provided by Holland & Lyons Mortuary. At Mr. Weiss' request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Carol Susan Wilt, age 60, of Biloxi, MS, was called home to glory on Saturday, April 4, 2009, in Gulfport. 

She is survived by her close friend and love, Thaddeus Korzeniowski; sons, Charles and Douglas; mother, Zella; brother and sister, William and Barbara Wilt; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends spread throughout the entire nation. Carol touched many lives, and our family takes comfort in knowing that Carol�s life, as well as her death, had purpose. 

Carol was born in Washington DC, March 8, 1949. She grew up in Packanack Lake and attended the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Biloxi, Mississippi. Carol was a devoted mother, sailor and musician and loved to sing in the choir. 

Memorial services will be held in Packanack, New Jersey later this month at the Packanack Community Church.
