As much as we’ve been curious about what our classmates have done and where they are, the next most frequent questions have revolved around our teachers. What did they do after they survived our shenanigans; where are they now, and unfortunately, when did they pass away.
We’ve done some preliminary research and once again, there are stories here. As ever, if you have any information about one of your favorites, please let us know.

Took a hiatus from teaching in 1969 to begin my family--had 2 sons.
Came back to WHS in 1973 to teach supplemental part time.
Retuned full time (to WVHS, as it was now called) as French teacher in 1981.
Got Masters in counseling, but never went that route.
Continued to teach French until retirement in 1998.
During teaching years, my husband John (who taught in Wayne Hills until 2000) and I made 25+ trips to Europe with students at first, and later with adults. We went to France at least 20 of those times, and never tired of visiting that beautiful country.

After high school I attended Montclair State College and received a BA in business education. Then in 1966 I received a MA from Paterson State College in special education I taught business education and special education for a total of 13 years in NJ, MD, and MI where I have lived for almost 40 years. While still single I had a whirlwind trip around the world visiting 13 countries.
In 1973 I married my husband, John Lacy, and we had a daughter and a son. I was a stay at home mom until my children were older and in school. Then I went back to work having various part time jobs – substitute teacher, physical therapy aide, medical records transcriber, bookkeeper, and office assistant I also volunteered at my children’s school and at my church. Our family spent many vacations going camping in the MI state parks.
Now I am retired and spend most of my time doing charity sewing. The fabric calls me! I make bears for adult cancer patients (Sojourn Bears) and quilts for preemies and ICU babies (Tiny Miracles). I also enjoy reading, riding my bicycle, doing handwork, working as a church volunteer, and participating in various activities that come my way.

Adrian Van Zweden
|
West Milford, NJ
|
Adrian Van Zweden taught his first class when Harry Truman was in the White House, and his most recent class this month.
The ramrod-straight 92-year-old towered over a roomful of fourth-graders at Eastern Christian Elementary School in Midland Park. He was showing them his collection of colorful rocks and minerals and his big, old magnet.
"There's something outside this magnet — I can't see it, I can't touch it, but I want to prove to you it's there," he said, milking the suspense.
He took a copper wire spooled around an iron core and swiped it by the magnet, creating sparks that prompted a giggly chorus of awesome! and cool!
"Whoa!" Van Zweden cried. "We're making electricity! I told you there was something there!"
Twenty-seven years after retiring as the Wayne schools' director of career and occupational education, Van Zweden is still at it. And he still has it (NJ Record)
